چکیده
Human motion analysis is receiving increasing attention from computer vision researchers. This interest is motivated by a wide spectrum of applications, such as athletic performance analysis, surveillance, man-machine interfaces, content-based image storage and retrieval, and video conferencing. This paper gives an overview of the various tasks involved in motion analysis of the human body. We focus on three major areas related to interpreting human motion: 1) motion analysis involving human body parts, 2) tracking of human motion wing single or multiple cameras, and 8) recognizing human activities from image sequences. Motion analysis of human body parts involves the lowlevel segmentation of the human body into segments connected by joints, and recovers the 3D structure of the human body using its 2 0 projections over a sequence of images. Ilfacking human motion wing a single or multiple cameras focuses on higher-level processing, in which moving humans are tracked without identifying specific parts of the body structure. After successfully matching the moving human image )?om one frame to another in image sequences, understanding the human movements or activities comes naturally, which leads to our discussion of recognizing human activities. The review is illustrated by ezamples.

Nonrigid Motion Analysis: Articulated and Elastic Motion
Motion of physical objects in the world is, in general, nonrigid. In robotics and computer vision, the motion of nonrigid objects is of growing interest to researchers from a wide spectrum of disciplines. The nonrigid objects being studied may be generally categorized into three groups according to the degree of deformation of body parts: articulated, elastic, and fluid. In articulated motion, ...
متن کاملShape and Nonrigid Motion Estimation Through Physics-Based Synthesis
A physics-based framework for 3-D shape and nonrigid motion estimation for real-time computer vision systems is presented. The framework features dynamic models that incorporate the mechanical principles of rigid and nonrigid bodies into conventional geometric primitives. Through the efficient numerical simulation of Lagrange equations of motion, the models can synthesize physically correct beh...
متن کاملNonrigid Motion Analysis Based on Dynamic Refinement of Finite Element Models
ÐIn this paper, we propose new algorithms for accurate nonrigid motion tracking. Given an initial model representing general knowledge of the object, a set of sparse correspondences, and incomplete or missing information about geometry or material properties, we can recover dense motion vectors using finite element models. The method is based on the iterative analysis of the differences between...
متن کاملGrouping of Articulated Objects with Common Axis
We address the problem of nonrigid Structure from Motion (SfM). Several methods have been published recently which try to solve the task of tracking, segmenting, or reconstructing nonrigid 3D objects in motion. Most of these papers focus on deformable objects. We deal with the segmentation of articulated objects, that is, nonrigid objects composed of several moving rigid objects. We consider tw...

In this article we propose a new method for accurate nonrigid motion analysis when point correspondence data is not available. Nonlinear finite element models are constructed by integrating range data and prior knowledge about an object’s properties. The motion sequence is recovered given an initial alignment of the model with the first frame of the sequence. The main idea of the method is to f...
